CHARYBDIS is a collaborative installation featuring a solo exhibition of mixed-media paintings by Chicago-based artist Jeni Emery. This new and deeply personal body of work by Emery is suspended in an installation designed by salonlb. in response to the emotionally charged, yet enigmatic series. The exhibition also features site-specific sand and textile installations, dynamic colored-lighting activations, and pampas grass sculptures created by artist Lauren Brescia.

Jeni Emery (b. 1985, California) is an abstract painter currently based in Chicago, Illinois. Invested in and intrigued by the acts and consequences of mark-making in various materials, Emery paints intuitively and often on unconventional surfaces. The transparency of these supports - such as bedsheets and silkscreen mesh - lends a sublime materiality to the work. Emery frequently works with textural media like sand, wax, and chalk, in addition to acrylic, and has experimented with printmaking processes to enhance the seductive visual interest of her surfaces. With their valleys, peaks, nooks, and crannies of color and form, Emery's work often weaves in and out of abstraction and landscape.
